CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The University of Charleston Lacrosse program will open up the 2020 campaign with a road matchup against the Hawks of Chowan University at 3:00 p.m. The game will be held at the Lacrosse & Soccer Complex on the campus of Chowan University in Murfreesboro, N.C.
 
The Golden Eagles head into Saturday after being tabbed 3^rd in the MEC preseason polls. Charleston, fresh off back-to-back trips to the MEC Tournament, will be under the direction of first-year coach Akasha Kasper. The Golden Eagles will rely on All-MEC first-team selection Alexis Stuck (48 groundballs, 18 caused turnovers) and second-team honoree Emma Renda (43 goals). Kyra Tye is back in net for UC after making 217 saves a season ago.
 
"Our offensive unit has developed immensely during the preseason weeks and we are excited to see their confident and selfless play implemented against our opponent" said first-year head coach Akasha Kasper. "We look forward to watching our unique style of defensive play work together to dictate the pace of this season. Both our goalies and draw team have been putting in extra hours during the preseason weeks and we believe they will see the rewards as we step out on the field to face Chowan.
 
When asked about Saturday's matchup against Chowan, Kasper stated, "Our team has been briefed on our scout, game plan, and have watched film on our opponent. We are prepared and excited for what is to come this season and looking forward to kicking it off this weekend with a solid and composed UC team."
 
Chowan (0-2, 0-1 Conf. Carolinas) comes into Saturday having played two games against Newberry and Barton College, both of which were dropped by scores of 17-7 and 18-2 respectively. The Hawks are led by Tashana Barnett, who has accounted for seven of Chowan's nine goals this season while Mallory Dunker and Brianna Bucksell have shared the duties between the pipes, having faced a total of 63 shots in two games while recording 18 saves.
