Golden Eagles Win Ninth Straight; Down Yellow Jackets 93-87 at Home

Charleston, W. Va – On Wednesday evening the University of Charleston Golden Eagles Men's Basketball team (8-2, 8-2 MEC) defeated cross-town rival West Virginia State Yellow Jackets in an MEC match-up with the score of 93-87. The Golden Eagles were led by Isaiah Gable, who finished the game with 19 points and 10 boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring after winning the tip, on a layup from Lamont McManus, but the Yellow Jackets went on a 10-0 run to give them the early advantage. With under 5 minutes left in the first half, the Golden Eagles fought their way back into the game by cutting the score to 10 as Seth O'Neal converted two from the stripe. Charleston closed the first half down In the first half, the Golden Eagles went 11-27 from the field, while the Yellow Jackets shot 50 percent. 

Coming out of the break, both teams scored on back-to-back possessions. At the 11:17 mark, the Golden Eagles cut the score to four points on a three pointer from Isaiah Gable. Charleston then tied the game 63-63 on a drive by Tyler Eberhart on the next possession.  Seth O'Neal made the second lead change of the game with his very own three-pointer. With the momentum shift Charleston's offense surged and the Golden Eagles climbed to a 10-point lead. The Yellow Jackets clawed their way back within four points of Charleston. During the final timeout at the 1:02 mark, the Yellow Jackets will cut the score to four to make it 87-83 Charleston. In the final minute of the contest, Seth O'Neal sunk one of two free throws to increase the lead for the Golden Eagles to 93-85 with 19 seconds to play. 

Charleston Shot 54.2 percent  from the field with great effort and defense in the second half to defeat the Yellow Jackets for their ninth straight victory.
