Men's and Women's Cross Country Competed in Concord Invitational

ATHENS, W.Va. - The University of Charleston men's and women's cross-country teams competed in the Concord Invitational on Friday morning in Athens, W.Va. The men ran an 8k, while the women ran a 5k. Both teams received second place in the Concord Invitational. 
 
The Basics
On the men's side, Charleston trailed Concord as the first seven runners to finish the race were Concord Mountain Lions. Freshman Jaime Blazquez led the men with a top-10 finish, clocking in at 29:08.9, an average mile time of 05:46.5. 
 
UC's Ashton Weaver also had a top-10 finish of 29:31.8, an average mile time of 5:56.4. Sophomore Ryan Blackwell finished right behind Weaver with a time of 29:33.0. 
 
On the women's side, Charleston's Indiyah Spetnagel was the first Golden Eagle to finish, receiving fifth. Spetnagel averaged a 7:14.6 mile, with a 22:30.3 finish. Right behind Spetnagel were UC's Sheilla Lagat and Erica Davis. Also finishing in the top-10 for Charleston were Nadia Calore and Amanda Brent. 
 
Head Coach Nick Bias said,
 
"I am happy with the way that we were able to compete in the smaller invitational because we got the work in that we needed to get in on a hilly cross-country course. That will benefit us later in the season, and overall, I am very proud of our teams!"
