Charleston 5 Bluefield State College 2
The women's tennis team rebounded nicely from their lone division 2 loss 10 days ago with a convincing win over regional rival Bluefield State College 5-2.
Charleston took the doubles points winning 6-2 at 1st Doubles and 6-0 at 2nd Doubles. The Golden Eagles won the first three singles courts to finish and clinch the match. The order of finish was Cameron (#4), Krasikova (#2), Singh (#1). Hondiashvili (#5) gave Charleston it's 5th point.
Coach Alec Foote said "This was an important regional win for us. Playing on the road can be difficult and the women stepped up today."
Player of the match was Alyssa Cameron who only dropped one game on the day.
Next up for Charleston is regional opponent Davis & Elkins. Friday, March 24th. 6pm at Charleston Tennis Club.
Men
Charleston 6 Bluefield State College 1
The 8-3 men's tennis team halted a two game losing streak with a hard fought come from behind win over Bluefield State College.
Charleston took the doubles point with wins at 1st and 3rd doubles. (Second doubles was tied 5-5 and not completed). Charleston then went on to drop the first set in 4 of the 6 singles match. As these matches entered second sets Rawson (#3) and Giesberts (#1) both won their matches. This put Charleston up 3-0 but in need of a third set win on one of the four remaining courts. The Golden Eagles rallied at the right time and ended up winning three of the four remaining matches in three sets. It was Lennert Stevens (#6) who provided the clinch point and the win.
Man of the match goes to Lennert Stevens who clinched the doubles point with partner Jowan Rawson and clinched the match with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at #6 singles.
