Golden Eagles Top MEC Standings After Their Weekend at the Vert Klasse Meeting

High Point, NC - The Golden Eagles Men's and Women's Track and Field teams traveled to High Point University in North Carolina to compete in the Vert Klasse Meeting this past weekend. Coach Bias celebrated a birthday on Sunday and two new school records from his runners. The teams continue to top the MEC standings with impressive work throughout the season. Details are highlighted below. 

New School Records:

4x400m Relay: Michael Garrett, Timber Huysmans, Alejandro Salgado, and Colin Hunkele recorded the new school record with a time of 3:15.68. Three of four of these runners were a part of the 4x400m indoor track and field MEC Championship team back in February. Their time placed them as the overall winner on the weekend and the #1 spot in the MEC.

Long Jump: Mathias Mees earned Charleston's new school record with a distance of 7.12 meters. Mees earned a top-5 finish on the weekend, placing 5th, and holds the #1 spot in the MEC. 

Top MEC Standings: 

Men

Shot Put: Kellen Tropeck, the Mountain East Field Player of the Year, threw a distance of 17.24 meters at VertKlasse Meeting this past weekend. Tropeck placed 3rd overall, the top Division 2 finisher,  is currently #13 in NCAA Division 2, earned an NCAA Provisional Qualifier spot, and is the #1 in the MEC. 

Discus: Tropeck wasn't finished. The senior threw discus with a distance of 48.66 meters and also holds #1 in the MEC. Tropeck finished #12 overall on the weekend for discus. 

200m: Emirh White earns a top-10 MEC placement of 9th after his weekend in NC. White placed 36th overall with a time of 22.52

400m: Timber Huysmans, an athlete a part of the new 4x400m school record, earned a top top-10 finish, placing 9th on the weekend with a time of 48.82. Huysmans is currently #1 in the MEC for the 400m. 

800m: Emmanuel Yego holds the #2 time in the MEC, right behind teammate Warren Thiel. Yego placed 7th overall on the weekend with a time of 1:53. Jaime Blazquez also earns a to0-10 MEC placement, earning 7th in the MEC and 18th on the weekend with a time of 1:58.04. Teammate Michael Garrett was right behind Yego on the weekend. Garrett placed 19th overall and is 8th in the MEC with a time of 1:58.34. 

1500m: Emmanuel Yego earns the #4 time in the MEC with a weekend time of 3:58.95. Yego placed 21st on the weekend. Teammate Cole Friend earns the #15 time in the MEC and 43rd overall with a time of 4:06.93.

5,000m: Joao Pereira earns a top-5 MEC time of #4 in the conference with a time of 14:39.94. Pereira earned a top-10 finish, placing 6th overall in High Point. 

Pole Vault: Nathaniel Wheeler earns the #5 standing in the MEC after his impressive weekend of vaulting 4.27 meters, and earning 23rd overall. 

4x100m Relay: Antonio Sneed, Timber Huysmans, Colin Hunkele, and Roberto Agrizzi earn the #1 time in the MEC, and 3rd the fastest time in school history after their impressive time of 41.69. 

Other Men's Highlights: 
 

Cole Friend placed 35th overall in the 800m with a time of 2:02.14 over the weekend. 

Women

100m Hurdles: Miriam Dreher earns #3 in the MEC after her weekend in High Point. Dreher ran a time of 15.08 to place 19th overall on the weekend. Teammate Balie Destefano earns the #4 spot in the MEC with her time of 15.34 and earned 27th overall at the Vert Klasse

400m Hurdles: Balie Destefano earns a top-3 MEC placement of #3 in the conference after her time of 1:06.81 over the weekend. Destefano earned 19th overall on the weekend. Marina Barahona also earned a top-10 MEC placement, earning #7 in the conference after running a 1:09.67 in the 400m hurdles. Barahona earned 35th overall over the weekend.

200m: Camila Hoya earns the #7 spot in the MEC after running a 26.56 on the weekend. Hoya earned 46th overall at High Point. 

400m: Camila Hoya is also #4 in the MEC for the 400m by running a 59.95. Hoya earned a top-30 finish of 28th overall.

800m: Lily Dowdell still holds the #1 time in the MEC for the 800m Dowdell earned a top-20 finish after placing 15th with a time of 2:18.80. TeammateMaelle Fuchs holds the #5 spot in the MEC with a time of 2:25.48, and earned herself 24th overall at the Vert Klasse. The Golden Eagles were rolling in the 800m. Mercy Jepleting is #6 in the MEC, earned 25th overall over the weekend, and ran a time of 2:25.49 Rounding it out, Madison Woolwine earns the #8 spot in the MEC with a time of 2:27.10 and placed 38th overall.

1500m: Madison Woolwine ran a personal best time and holds the #6 time in the MEC after running a 4:51.12 over the weekend. Woolwine earned 30th overall. Teammate Maelle Fuchs is right behind her in the MEC standings, earning the #7 time in the conference after running a 4:54.26. Fuchs placed 42nd overall in High Point. 

Shot Put: Abby McKinney holds a top-5 MEC standing, earning the #4 spot with a distance of 11.10 meters. McKinney placed 29th overall on the weekend. 

Triple Jump: Miriam Dreher earns herself the #1 spot in the conference after jumping 12.65 meters. Dreher earns a top-15 finish, placing 14th overall at HPU. 

Long Jump: Miriam Dreher continued her feat with the long jump. Dreher holds the #2 spot in the MEC by jumping 5.45 meters over the weekend. Dreher earned a top-20 finish, placing 19th overall on the weekend. 

3,000m Steeplechase: Amanda Brent earns the #3 spot in the MEC and 11th overall on the weekend after running 12:58.99 on the weekend. 

4x400m Relay: Marina Barahona, Erica Davis, Dasheya Booker, and Patricia Alonso-Munoz earn the #3 time in the MEC for their race after running a combined 4:09.43. The ladies earned a top-20 finish, placing 19th overall.

 

Other Women's Highlights:

 

Amara Mason placed 39th overall in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.86.

What's Next: The Golden Eagles are back in action right here at home as they host the annual Golden Eagle Invitational Saturday, April 8th.
