Azusa, California– The University of Charleston distance squad competed against some of the nation's top talent at the Bryan Clay Invitational, one of the premier distance meets in the country, with several Golden Eagles earning qualifying marks and personal bests.
How It Happened:
Charleston sent a select group of distance athletes to California, competing in elite fields stacked with top collegiate runners.
In the men's 5,000 meters, Collin Brooks led a strong Charleston group with a time of 14:39.3, while Thomas Crockett followed closely behind in the same heat at 14:42.10. Hugo Hewitt delivered a standout performance in the invitational section, running a personal best of 14:19.33.
Highlighting the meet for the Golden Eagles, Mathew Meli broke the program record in the 5,000 meters, running 13:59.81 in his first outdoor race of the season to become the first athlete in program history to dip under the 14-minute barrier.
In the men's 1,500 meters, Jules Geffroy-Remot led Charleston with a time of 3:49.42, while Caleb Gilbert posted a strong performance of 3:39.44.
