HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—University of Charleston Track & Field showed out in the Youngstown State University Mid-Major Invitational, winning a total of four events. George Couttie set an NCAA provisional qualification time in the mile with a time of 4:01.23, and he currently sits in first place in NCAA Division II Track & Field. Like Couttie,Timber Huysmans also set a provisional qualification time in the Men's 200 Meters with a time of 21.46. He ranks ninth in NCAA Division II.
Highlights:
Men's 4 x 400 Relay
Michael Garrett, Colin Hunkele, Timber Huysmans and Alejandro Salgado raced to a first place finish with a time 3:17.47, while Jaime Blazquez, Bram De Raedt, Warren Thiel and Joshua Sterner took the third place spot with a time of 3:24.13.
Women's 4 x 400 Relay
The women were also successful in the 4 x 400 Relay with a first and ninth place finish. Maya Clark, Erica Davis, Balie Destefano and Camilla Hoya claimed the first place spot at 3.59.56, and Marina Barahona, Dasheya Booker, Kendal Domenico and Emily Kupfner took ninth with a time of 4:23.75.
Men's 3000 Meters
The Golden Eagles went 1-3-5-7-9 in the Men's 3000 meters. Corey Schobelock claimed the first place spot with a time of 8:39.71, while Dennis McCheskey finished third, Alex Jackson finished fifth, Aidan O'Leary finished seventh and Carter Lipscomb finished in ninth.
Women's Mile
Beth Sykes was the first Golden Eagle to cross the finish line for Charleston, as she finished in third place at 4:58.47. Sykes is currently first in the Mountain East Conference with this time. Jeanne Corroy and Madison Woolwine also finished in the top ten at sixth and seventh place with times of 5:14.71 and 5:16.46.
Women's Weight Throw
Abby McKinney finished third overall with an impressive mark of 16.51m, making her the top division II finisher. McKinney is currently number one in the MEC Weight Throw. Ella Nilsson and Mallory Crowder finished in eighteenth and twentieth place with marks of 11.57m and 11.06m.
