WHEELING, W.Va. — The University of Charleston men's and women's cross country teams each secured runner-up finishes at the Mountain East Conference Championships on Saturday at Oglebay Park, finishing behind Davis & Elkins College in both the men's 8k and women's 6k races.
For the Golden Eagles, several athletes placed in the top 20 to earn All-MEC honors. On the women's side, Beth Sykes finished 7th with a time of 22:55.01, and Madison Woolwine followed closely in 8th at 22:55.88, earning both runners All-MEC First Team recognition. Mercy Jepleting finished 14th with a time of 23:49.25, earning a spot on the All-MEC Second Team.
In the men's race, Sam Idiens led Charleston with a runner-up finish, clocking 25:00.53, while Zane "Iggy" Chalker placed 4th with a time of 25:26.78. Corey Schobelock crossed the line in 6th at 25:50.29, with all three men securing All-MEC First Team honors. Jules Geoffrey-Remot finished 16th in 26:13.61, and Cole Friend took 20th at 26:25.01, both earning All-MEC Second Team honors for their efforts.

The Golden Eagles will look to build on this success as they prepare for upcoming postseason competition at the NCAA DII Atlantic Regional Championship. The top-three team finishes at the MEC XC Championship qualified for the meet, so the Golden Eagles will see some familiar faces as they move forward.
