Charleston Excels At UAH Chargers XC Invitational, Men Finish Second, Women Place 11th

| By:
Huntsville, Ala. UAH Chargers XC Invitational, on Saturday, Oct. 11, the Charleston men posted a strong team effort to finish second out of 26 teams while the women placed 11th in a deep field. The meet began at 8:00 a.m. under cool, race-day conditions and showcased the Golden Eagles' depth across both squads.

The Basics:
Location: UAH Chargers XC Invitational, Huntsville, Ala.
Score: Men 2nd, Women 11th

How it Happened:
Charleston's men turned in a near-flawless team performance, placing five runners inside the top 25 and nearly stealing the title. Hugo Hewitt led the way, earning second overall in 24:34 and adding veteran leadership after his MEC runner-of-the-week form. Freshman Harry Witt followed closely in ninth at 24:39, and recent transfer Thomas Crockett provided a huge boost with a 12th-place finish that solidified the front pack. The depth held up through the lineup as Jules Geffroy Remot and Caleb Gilbert finished 18th and 23rd in 24:58 and 25:04, allowing Charleston's top five to pack tightly — all within roughly 30 seconds — which is what made the team race so strong.

Women:
The Golden Eagles women battled in a loaded field and secured an upper-half finish thanks to a well-spaced scoring group. Sophomore Amanda Ferrante led the squad, finishing in 22:38 for the 6K to set the tone up front. Junior Bethany Wallis was right behind in 22:55, with sophomore Abbey Bolton and freshman Ava Lightfritz pacing the middle of the pack at 23:17 and 23:23. Junior Sara Campana anchored the effort with a 24:00, and the 34-47-64-66-91 spread gave Charleston a balanced showing that pushed them into 11th place.
