CHARLESTON, W.Va.-University of Charleston Track & Field competed at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Grand Valley State University Big Meet and the Marshall Invitational this past weekend.
Highlights:
GVSU Big Meet:
Men's 4x400 Relay:
Bram De Raedt, Michael Garrett, Colin Hunkele and Alejandro Salgado set a new school and Mountain East Conference record, as they raced to a sixth place finish with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time of 3:14.25. Academy of Art took first place with a time of 3:10.53.
Women's 4x400 Relay:
Balie Destefano, Marina Barahona, Maya Clark and Cami Hoya also set a new school record with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying TIme of 3:51.72, securing them tenth place. Indiana Tech were the overall winners with a time of 3:44.75.
Marshall Invitational:
Men's 800m:
Adian O'Leary finished second overall with a time of 1:56.83, which was a personal best for the junior. Rio Grande's Kyle Lightner narrowly took first with a time of 1:56.69.
Women's 800m:
Jeanne Corroy put up a new school record and personal best time of 2:17.27. She finished eighth overall and is currently ranked second in the MEC.
Women's Weight Throw:
Abby McKinney was sixth overall with a mark of 16.48m. She currently holds the first place spot in the MEC.
Boston University Valentine Invitational:
Men's 800m:
With an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time and personal best of 1:50.48, Senior Warren Thiel snagged thirty-ninth place out of 265 athletes. He is currently ranked eleventh in the NCAA and second in the MEC.
Women's Mile:
Beth Sykes set a new school record and put up an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time of 4:53.06. She claimed the 106th spot out of 318 athletes with this time, and is currently first in the MEC.
Men's Mile:
Sam Idiens also raced to an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time of 4:08.78, which was good for 156th place out of 358 athletes and was also the second fastest time in school history. The freshman currently ranks second in the MEC. Freshman George Couttie finished in 226th place behind Idiens with a time of 4:13.54.
Women's 5000m:
Sophomore Julie LaFare snagged ninety-ninth place with a time of 17:31.49. She is currently first in the MEC.
Up Next:
UC Track & Field heads to Huntington, West Virginia on Friday, February 16 for the MEC Indoor Track & Field Championship. It will take place at the Chris Cline Atheltic Complex and conclude on Saturday, February 17.
