UC Resets Record Books at Ashland University and Youngstown State Invitationals

CHARLESTON, W.Va.- University of Charleston Men's and Women's Track & Field continued their spectacular season this past weekend at the Youngstown State University Mid-Major Invitational and Ashland University Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational. UC finished in first place in four events and over 20 Golden Eagles set new personal bests this weekend.

Sam Idiens, Colin Hunkele, Warren Thiel and George Couttie raised the bar for the Distance Medley Relay, as they raced to a first place finish with an NCAA Qualifying Time of 9:41.10. It is the fastest time ever recorded in school and conference history.

Highlights:
Men's 60 Hurdles
Junior Roberto Agrizzi raced to an eleventh place finish out of 35 athletes with a time of 8.34 seconds, setting a new personal best and school record.  

Women's 60 Hurdles
As the only competitor for Charleston in the 60 Hurdles, Minke Engelbrecht crossed the finish line in fourteenth place at 9.41 seconds.

Men's 200 Meters
Timber Huysman recorded a new personal best, set a new school record and finished in first place with an NCAA Provisional Time of 21.25 seconds in the 200 meters. He is currently ranked sixth in NCAA Division II. Bram De Raedt and Colin Hunkele also put on their best performances with De Raedt taking eleventh place with a time of 22.06 and Hunkele taking twenty-ninth place with a time of 22.47.

Women's 200 Meters
Balie Destefano had a personal best time of 26.66 seconds, securing her thirty-fifth place out of 87.

Men's Distance Medley Relay
Idiens, Hunkele, Thiel and Couttie are currently ranked first in NCAA Division II in the Distance Medley after putting on a fantastic show at the Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational. The team, composed of two freshmen, a junior and a senior, put up an NCAA Division II Provisional time of 9:41.10. To make matters even more impressive, they also set a new Mountain East Conference and school record with this time.  

Women's Distance Medley Relay
Jeanne Corroy, Camilia Hoya, Maya Clark and Beth Sykes also had an outstanding performance in the Distance Medley, finishing first overall with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time of 11:52. They also set a new school record with this time and are currently ranked ninth in NCAA Division II.

4x400m Relay
Da Raedt, Hunkele, Michael Garrett and Alex Salgado raced to a fourth place finish with an NCAA Qualifying time of 3:15.00. They also set a new school record and are currently ranked twenty-fifth in NCAA Division II.

Women's 4x400m Relay
At 4:03, Corroy, Hoya, Clark and Sykes claimed sixth place overall.

Men's 400m Dash
Hunkele, Raedt and Salgado took eighth, tenth and twelfth place with times of 48.98 seconds, 49.19 seconds and 50.02 seconds. They all set new personal bests in the 400m Dash. 

Women's 400m Dash
Hoya was the first finisher for Charleston at 57.54 seconds, which was good for ninth place overall in the Elite Section, the fastest time in school history for indoor Women's Track & Field and a personal best for the junior. Erica Davis put up her best time of the season and crossed the finish line at 1:02.94, securing her thirteenth place overall. Dasheya Booker and Sage McLaughlin also represented the Golden Eagles with season bests, coming in twentieth and twenty-second place with times of 1:03.94 and 1:04.64.

Men's 800m
Couttie continues to dominate, as he clinched second place with another NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time of 1:50.45. He set a new personal best and is currently ranked eighth in NCAA Division II. Jaime Blazquez was the thirteenth athlete to cross the finish line and set a new personal best with a time of 1:55.16.

Women's 800m
Three Golden Eagles competed in the Women's 800 meters. Marina Barahona secured a nineteenth place finish with a personal best time of 2:24. Mercy Jepleting and Nadia Calore put together their best times of the season, finishing in twenty-fifth place and thirty-second place at 2:26 and 2:30.42.  

Men's Triple Jump
Lethogon Ramafuthula finished fourth overall with a mark of 13.60 meters. Tiffin University's Sheldon McNicholas took first with a mark of 14.58 meters.

Women's Triple Jump
Setfani Vasileva clinched fifth place overall out of 21 with a mark of 10.95 meters. Hillsdale's Senior Emily Gerdin was the winner at 11.52 meters.

Shot Put
Ella Nilsson finished twenty-ninth overall out of 54 with a mark of 10.57 meters, which was a personal best for the freshman. Ashland's Junior Catherine Dial was the overall winner at 13.58 meters.

Weight Throw
Nilsson also had a personal best performance in the weight throw with a mark of 12.39 meters. She finished in thirty-eighth place out of 60. Lake Erie's junior Richella Spielvogel took first place.

Men's Mile
Antoine Aflalo claimed second place in the mile with a personal best of 4:12.95. He finished behind an unattached runner who put up a time of 4:12.69. Warren Thiel was also a top finisher for Charleston, as he crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 4:14.35.

Women's Mile
At 5:06.49, Sophomore Julie LaFare set a new personal best and finished in ninth place overall. Jepleting and Abigail Anderson followed LaFare in nineteenth and fiftieth place, as Jepleting put out a season best time of 5:17.97 and Anderson put out a personal best time of 6:13.42.

Men's 3k
Iggy Chalker came out on top in the 3k and set a new school record with a time of 8:18.68. Idiens was the next Golden Eagle to finish, as he took third with a personal best time of 8:22. Dennis McCheskey and Alex Jackson also claimed seventh and eighth with personal bests of 8:33 and 8:35. Like Idiens, McCheskey and Jackson, Ryan Blackwell put on his best show, finishing in twenty fifth with a personal best of 8:50. 

Women's 3k
Sykes secured first place with a personal best and an NCAA Division II Qualifying time of 9:50.02, which also set a new school record. LaFare finished closely behind her in second place at 10:09, while Corroy took fourth with a personal best of 10:12. Madison Woolwine took eleventh place, also setting a new personal best with a time of 10:23.

Men's 5k
Corey Schobelock finished in second place with a time of 15:01, while Carter Lipscomb and Cole Friend took sixth and eighth place with times of 15:31 and 15:33. Brady Miller also put up a personal best time of 15:39, securing him tenth place.

Women's 5k
Amanda Brent was the sole competitor for the Golden Eagles in the 5k, and she crossed the finish line in seventeenth place with a personal best time of 20:05.

Men's Shot Put
Kellen Tropeck's mark of 15.04 meters was the highest out of all the Golden Eagles, which was good for eighth place in the Elite Section. Jullian Matthews and Luke Messinger finished in the top 15 with Matthews taking tenth overall with a mark of 14.12 meters and Messinger taking thirteenth overall at 13.82 meters. At 13.43 meters, Frankie Winter finished in twenty-second place.  

Men's Weight Throw
Tropeck and Messinger also finished in fourteenth and twenty-third place in the weight throw with marks of 16.16 and 14.22 meters.

Men's Heptathlon-Youngstown St. University Mid-Major Invitational
Mathias Mees collected 4,157 points in the Heptathlon, while Blake Stanton collected 2,723. Mees finished third overall and Stanton finished thirteenth overall, which was a personal best for the junior.

Women's Pentathlon-Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational
Laura Delgado de Torres claimed second place with 3,390 points, which was an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark and a new school record.

Up Next:
Track & Field will head to two different meets this upcoming weekend. Some will attend the Boston University David Demery Valentine Invitational, while others will head to Allendale, Michigan to compete in the Grand Valley State University Big Meet.
