2024 MEC Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field Champions

UC Clinches Both Men's & Women's MEC Track & Field Championship Titles

Men's & Women's Track & Field Named MEC Champions 
FROSTBURG, W.VA.—University of Charleston Men's and Women's Track & Field dominated at the MEC Championship hosted by Frostburg State University. Four Golden Eagles won individual awards while 33 earned all-conference awards. 

After winning the Discus with a mark of 45.79m, the hammer throw with a mark of 54.67m and the shot put with a mark of 15.87, the graduate student was awarded the MEC Men's Field Athlete and Men's Most Valuable Performer awards. 

On the flip side, Warren Thiel was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Year after earning All-MEC Second Team honors in the 800m and helping lead his team to a victory in the Men's 4x400 at 3 minutes 13.22 seconds. 

Julie LaFare also earned Women's Track Athlete of the Year honors. LaFare raced to a first place finish in the Women's 5000m with a time of 18:08.83 and the Women's 10000m at 37 minutes 54.90 seconds. 

Sam Idiens also earned the MEC Freshman of the Year award. The Christchurch, New Zealand native raced to a first place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:49.36 and a second place finish in the 1500m with a time of 3:53.80. 

After leading the men to another conference championship title, Head Coach Nick Bias received MEC Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year.
