Golden Eagles Shine with Wins, Records at YSU Mid-Major Invitational

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The University of Charleston Track & Field teams turned in a strong weekend at the 2026 YSU Mid-Major Invitational, held January 30–31, highlighted by multiple event victories, school records, and nationally ranked performances.

Men's Results
Weight Throw (Elite): Luke Messinger opened the meet with a dominant performance, winning the men's elite weight throw with a school-record mark of 18.35 meters.

Shot Put: Julian Mathews captured first place in the open section with a throw of 14.96 meters, while Jack Ingram followed with a third-place finish at 14.69 meters. In the elite section, freshman Aiden Corbett placed second overall while setting a new school record with a mark of 17.23 meters.

400 Meters: Charleston placed three athletes in the top five as Eric Kreuter led the way with a second-place finish in 48.38, a time that currently ranks 39th nationally. Teammates Alejandro Salgado and Brady Prior followed with times of 48.54 and 49.20, respectively.

60 Meter Hurdles: Massimo Pantano earned a third-place finish with a time of 8.21.

1 Mile (Invitational): Collin Brooks recorded a personal-best performance with a time of 4:15.46.

4×400 Meter Relay: The men's 4×400-meter relay squad closed the meet with a victory, posting a time of 3:15.71, one of the fastest indoor marks in program history and just outside the school record.

Women's Results
Weight Throw (Elite): Joy Edward claimed the elite weight throw title with a mark of 17.50 meters, while teammate Mia Huber finished second at 16.43 meters.

Shot Put (Elite): Edward continued her standout weekend by winning the elite shot put with a personal-best and school-record throw of 15.00 meters.

60 Meters: Colette Patti placed third in the finals with a time of 7.63.

60 Meter Hurdles: Minke Engelbrecht earned a third-place finish with a time of 9.00.

200 Meters: Patti added another victory to her weekend, winning the women's 200 meters in 24.63 seconds.

1 Mile: Abbey Bolton placed second in the women's open mile with a new personal record of 5:16.00, while Sara Campana finished fourth in 5:20.01. In the invitational section, Amanda Ferrante recorded a personal-best time of 5:07.55.

Additional Results
Charleston athletes also competed at the 2026 Mayo Invitational during the weekend. Caleb Gilbert ran a personal-best 4:08.03 in the mile, while Matthew Meli delivered a standout performance in the 3,000 meters, setting a new school record with a time of 8:02.50, lowering his previous mark and placing him 10th on the Division II national list.
