Senior John White

Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va.
- Senior John White recorded his second-straight double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, but it would not be enough as the No. 3 ranked Bellarmine Knights used a second half surge to defeat UC 79-59, Saturday afternoon.

The Knights (3-0) started a little sluggish but were able to establish an early 12-4 lead, while leading scorer Jon Liggins warmed up and helped keep the Golden Eagles close. After Charleston (3-3) closed the margin to just one, Bellarmine was able to again built an 8-point before settling for a 34-30 halftime lead.

Liggins would end the contest shooting just 6-of-14, but with 13 points.

After going just 2-10 from 3-point range in the first half, Bellarmine heated up from beyond the arc and did a solid job of converting defensive rebounds into fast break opportunities and gradually built a lead that grew to a high of 22 before closing the contest with the final tally of 79-59. The Knights were hot from the floor in the second half at 65.5 percent, including going 5-12 from behind the arc.

One of the key statistics for the evening was Bellarmine outrebounding the Golden Eagles by five when Charleston entered the game averaging a plus-15 rebounding margin over their opponents.

Ibrahim Marone continued to shoot well underneath the basket by shooting 6-of-8 for 13 points and four rebounds.

The Golden Eagles return to the court on the road against defending WVIAC champion West Liberty at 7:30 pm on Thursday, December 2.
