Golden Eagle Sports Have Shutout Sunday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Pitt-Johnstown and Southern Indiana ran into a determined group of athletes Sunday morning as the men's and women's soccer teams joined the University of Charleston women's tennis team is shutout victories.

Women's Soccer

Jessica Bigg registered eight points on three goals and two assists as Charleston downed Pitt-Johnstown 7-0 Sunday.

Courtney Cole added two goals while Brittany Loveland added one. Kimberly D’Angelo and Danielle Siegrist each had an assist.

Cole rocketed home a rebound into an empty net just 1:06 into the contest for the game-winning score. Bigg was credited with an assist on the play. She then scored the next two goals in the match, both of which came before the 21st minute.

Bigg connected with Cole again just 36 seconds into the second half for a goal. Loveland, Bigg and D’Angelo all had goals within the first 6:26 of the final stanza.

UC out-shot UPJ 23-5.

Victoria Der Vanik had six saves while Timi Shiock had two in the loss.



Men's Soccer

Rob Vincent scored a goal and dished out an assist en route to a 3-0 victory against visiting Pitt-Johnstown Sunday.

Ryan Osborne made the pass to Vincent on a fast break. Vincent registered the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute of play.

With the score still at 1-0 in the second half, Craig Cantor made a long throw into the area in front of the net. Osborne registered the second goal of the contest just 44 seconds into the final stanza.

Dan Walmsley headed home a Vincent corner kick for the final score.

Sean Teepen had three saves in the win as the Golden Eagles rocketed 27 shots in the match to five for UPJ. Michael Cuccaro had nine saves while Nolan Levine added one for the Mountain Cats.


Women's Tennis

The University of Charleston women's tennis team continued to stay hot with their fourth-straight victory as the Golden Eagles cruised to a 9-0 victory over Southern Indiana.

Kelsey Hensley faced the toughest match of the afternoon, but kept the scoreboard spotless for UC with a win in extra sets 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 to keep her perfect No. 4 singles record intact.
