GREENSBURG, Pa. – The University of Charleston Men’s Basketball team went on the road and blasted conference opponent with 60 points in the paint as the Golden Eagles secured their sixth-straight win 99-77, Saturday night.
The teams came off the opening tip blazing the nets as they combined to hit 12 three-pointers in the first half, while nailing 37-of-68 total shots with each team shooting over 50 percent. Charleston (13-11, 11-9) held a narrow and hard fought 48-46 advantage going into the locker room at halftime.
The second half saw UC come alive to hit 21-of-35 shots (60 percent) as they ran away with the contest to score 51 points in the closing stanza to walk away with a 99-77 conference win.
Senior James Eversley (Fredericksburg, Va./Virginia Commonwealth) continued his late season dominance with 19 points and seven rebounds off the bench to lead five Golden Eagle’s in double-figures for the contest. Eversley’s contribution helped lead Charleston to a 35-8 scoring differential off the bench.
Junior Marco Richardson (Canton, Ohio/Northland CC) followed on Eversley’s heels with 17 points and eight rebounds, while seniors Jon Liggins (Euclid, Ohio/Cuyahoga CC) and John White (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) each netted 16 points and four rebounds.
The powerful presence in the paint of Ibrahim Marone (Trotwood, Ohio/Madison) accounted for 13 points and four rebounds in just 14 minutes of action.
UC has pulled back into the upper half of the WVIAC rankings with its current winning-streak, which it will look to continue on Wednesday, February 23 at 8:00 pm in Eddie King Gym.
