Buckhannon, W.Va. - The University of Charleston volleyball team ran into a tough contest on the road Wednesday night as the Golden Eagles were unable to contest the home court advantage as WV Wesleyan rolled to a 3-0 WVIAC win.
WVWC (11-7, 4-1) came out of the locker room with a stifling attack to hit 41 percent in a 25-16 opening set victory as Charleston (6-11, 0-1) handicapped their offense with seven errors, while recording just seven kills.
The second set saw UC step up the competition as they hammered out 10 kills and held the home team to just a .094 hitting percentage with eight attack errors. The Bobcats would make the comeback from their toughest set of the night in order to book a 25-23 win putting the Golden Eagles on edge for set three.
Charleston again would commit seven errors in set three to make it a difficult road as WV Wesleyan pulled away late for a 25-17 win to secure the match victory handing UC its first loss in WVIAC play.
The Golden Eagles now face the task of trying to slow WVIAC leading Wheeling Jesuit at home on Friday, Sept. 30 beginning at 6:00 pm.
