CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Using 20 Ohio Valley turnovers the University of Charleston men's basketball team was able to keep the Fighting Scots well out of range of any upset opportunity as the Golden Eagles cruised to a 90-70 WVIAC win, Saturday night.

Terrell Lipkins (Canton, Ohio) slashed to the hoop just four minutes into the game to give UC (4-1) a 9-8 advantage that would never slip away. OVU managed to stick within reach of Charleston for much of the first half before an 18-6 run by the Golden Eagles broke the game open to a 15 point lead with just 3:51 before the break.

After trading foul shots in the final two minutes Hayden Annett (Portland, Australia) put an exclamation point on a 5-0 run to close the half with a deep three-pointer that set the halftime score at 49-32. The home bench made the difference in the first half as head coach Mark Downey had waves of talent to throw at Ohio Valley leading to a 17-5 advantage in bench scoring for Charleston.

Xavier Humphrey (Wake Forest, N.C.) put to rest any hopes OVU had of the Golden Eagles losing their touch in the second half as he opened play with a quick-strike three-point shot just 23 seconds into the final frame. The bucket point the UC lead into the 20 point range, where it never retreated for the rest of the night.

Behind strike-after-strike through the lane by Lipkins the University of Charleston never faced any issues breaking down the Fighting Scot defense. Lipkins' layup on a fast-break with 8:43 left in the game put UC ahead by 30 points (75-45), which led way for a wave of substitutions as the Golden Eagles' bench closed out the contest cruising down the stretch for the victory.

On the night Charleston hit just 44 percent (33-of-75) of their shots with Ohio Valley hitting 41 percent (28-of-69), but the difference came from three-point land where UC was 9-for-18 to the Fighting Scot's tally of 4-for-16.

Lipkins continues to be the offensive catalyst for the University of Charleston as he netted 22 points with four assists and three steals. Humphrey continues to also provide a great option on the wing as he booked 13 points and five rebounds. Robbie Dreher (Greenville, SC) saw his first action of the season coming off the Charleston bench for 11 points, while Annett rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points and four boards.

"Terrell just continues to get better and is playing exceptionally right now. Are guys really toughed it out tonight and got through some tough spots shooting the ball." Downey said. "It's great that Robbie was able to get some extended time, him being in the lineup makes us just that much more dangerous offensively, as well as, our bench just that much deeper."

Charleston hits the road for their next game on Monday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 pm when they faceoff against WVIAC opponent Glenville State. Be sure to tune in here at ucgoldeneagles.com for live play-by-play coverage of Monday's contest.
