Charleston, WVa. The University of Charleston extended their winning streak to seven games with a win over cross county rival West Virginia State University 3-0 Tuesday night at Eddie King Gym. Senior Brenna Youlton was honored before the game during the "White Out" promotion.

To begin the match, the Golden Eagles rattled off three quick points with Melissa Reyes serving aided by a hitting error by State and blocks from Olivia Livengood and Victoria Severo. The Golden Eagles front court continued where they left off last week hammering the Yellow Jackets with kills by Victoria Severo and Larry to extend the lead 6-2. State made up ground with long rallies and errors from UC but the Golden Eagles retook momentum with a block from Brenna Youlton and Clairissa Larry to make the score 10-7. UC would again extend their lead with kills and blocks 17-9. Katharine Furlong would make back to back kills to push the score to 19-9. At 21-10, WV State was finally able to break the wall only to be countered with a Brenna Youlton kill on the next point, score 22-10. Katharine Furlong closed out the set with a kill 25-11. UC takes a 1-0 lead.

WV State opens the second set with the serve starting a brief rally before a Victoria Severo block ends the point. UC outside hitters continue to batter the Yellow Jackets, taking the score to 3-0. State was then able to steal four straight points and take their first lead of the day 4-3. Each squad would exchange points back to back before a serving error by state and kill by Brenna Youlton gave UC a 7-5 lead. WV State was then able to break through the front court of the Golden Eagles to take the lead 8-7. A block by Olivia Livengood and Clairissa Larry and service ace by Elle martin took the lead back 9-7. Livengood, Larry, and Severo would continue their dominance of earlier breaking away 15-9. Olivia Livengood and Severo would crush back to back attempts by State to take a 20-9 lead. Errors allowed the Yellow Jackets to inch their way back 20-12. Failed communication continued to allow WV State to come back, bringing the score to 21-15. After a UC timeout, Clairissa Larry made a cross court kill to reawaken the Golden Eagles. UC would smash their way to a 24-16 advantage. West Virginia State was able to answer with back to back kills 24-18. A hitting error by State ended the set 25-18. UC takes a 2-0 lead.

In the third, Melissa Reyes opens up serving again but the Yellow Jackets were able to strike first. WV State scored again with another failed block attempt to take a 2-0 lead. Clairissa Larry puts UC on the board with a kill from outside the box to start UC's drive. Tied up 3-3, Victoria Severo took it to the Yellow Jackets with a kill from the middle. Back to back dominate serves extended UC lead 6-3. After a State tip, Katharine Furlong split the defenders to record a kill 7-4. Golden Eagle blocking would again swell the lead 9-5. Olivia Livengood returned to the front court slamming State 12-5. Abbi Byrant would combine with Victoria Severo to make it difficult for WV State, blocking their way to a 16-6 lead. An ace by Elle Martin would push the score 17-6. A hitting error would end UC's run 20-7 and plague the Golden Eagles, propelling the Yellow Jackets to jump five points back 20-12. Back to back errors from State pushed the score to 22-12. Each team would exchange blows before Victoria Severo ended the match with a kill to the backcourt 25-14.
