Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Looking to rebound after a tough loss Saturday, the University of Charleston men's basketball team held off a late surge to defeat the Pioneers of Glenville State University 77-70.

Charleston would have seven different players record baskets in the first half and would be led by Xavier Humphrey with 14 points going six of 10 from the field and Tino diTrapano adding 10 points to take a 43-34 advantage at the half. Glenville's Lamar Mallory would connect on five of six shots to record 11 points at the half, while Jordan McCloud added 10.

In the second half, Glenville would come out with something to prove trimming the lead to just one with 15 minutes left in the game. UC would respond, taking it back to six with just over 11 minutes on a made three-point shot by Hayden Annett. Charleston would extend the lead to 12 when Denzel Douglas would make a turn-around jumper with just under six minutes to go.  The Pioneers would not go away quietly as a three-point play by Mallory would cut the lead to six with just under four minutes left. With it being a two possession game, with just 21 seconds left, Denio Chirindja would connect on one of two from the free throw line to seal the victory for the Golden Eagles.

UC's Humphrey and Glenville's Mallory would each finish with 22 points to lead the way, while diTrapano, Annett, and Aleksander Kesic would each also turn in double digit scoring performances for the Golden Eagles. Glenville's Lamont Cole 17 points, Donte Morales 16, and McCloud's 12 rounded off the double digit scorers for the Pioneers.Â

Both teams move to 6-4 on the season and 3-3 in Mountain East Conference play. UC is back in action Thursday January 9
th when they take on Concord University in Athens, W.Va., with tip-off set for 7:30pm.                Â
