Men's Basketball Get First Win of Season

Box Score Glenville, W.Va. – Looking to avenge last year's first round NCAA Tournament loss to the Golden Knights of Gannon University the University of Charleston Men's Basketball team used a hot first half to help lead them to a 54-52 victory Saturday night at the WACO Center Classic.

UC used 17 points and four assists from sophomore Cameron Dozier (Graceville, FL) and 15 points from junior Aleksander Kesic (Belgrade, Serbia) to move to 1-1 on the season.  After shooting 69-percent from the field in the first half Charleston held a 10-point half-time lead. Out of the half, UC extended its lead to 15 with just over 13 minutes remaining. The Golden Knights then manufactured a 13-0 run to pull within two at 42-40 with just under 10 minutes to play.

After trading back and forth buckets, Kesic was sent to the line and after making two free throws with seven seconds left it was a two possession game. However, Adam Blazek drilled a three pointer with just three seconds left to make the lead two at 54-52.  Blazek went on to steal the ball from the Golden Eagles and missed a jumper as time expired that would have tied the game for Gannon.

Gannon's balanced offensive attack led by Blazek with 14 points featured three other with double digit efforts.

Charleston is back in action November 22nd, as they open Mountain East Conference play and head to West Liberty, W.Va. to take on the 2014 National Runner-up with tip off set for 4pm.
