CHARLESTON, W.Va. - In what would be a wire to wire thriller, the University of Charleston men's basketball team held on to defeat Notre Dame College, 100-93. The 45 minute overtime victory for Charleston featured nine lead changes and five ties, including ties at the half, 37-37 and end of regulation, 82-82.
UC got stellar production from Aleksander Kesic whose career high 27 points was not to be out done by senior Xavier Humphrey's 33 points on senior night. Fellow senior's Fred Simpson chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds while Denzel Douglas added 12 points and nine assist for the Golden Eagles. Sophomore Tino diTrapano finished with a career high five steals to go with his eight points.
Notre Dame who shot 52 percent from the field got 27 points from Lawrence DeArmond and 19 points from Tyree Gaiter. Rounding off the double-digit performers were Geovonte Rose with 15 points, Jarvis Huntley with 12, and Jackson Figueora with 10 points.
Charleston, moves to 2-1 in overtime games and outscored Notre Dame 18-11 in the extra period to secure its 17th victory on the season and fourth straight moving its record to 17-7 and 14-6 in Mountain East Conference play. NDC falls to 9-17 on the season and 7-13 in MEC play.
UC will be back in action Wednesday, Feb 26th when they make up the rescheduled contest versus Concord University with tip-off set for 7:30p.m.
