Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Xavier Humphrey's three pointer with 13:23 remaining in the game gave him 1,002 career points making him the 45
th player in University of Charleston history to achieve the 1,000 point mark, it also gave UC a 14-point lead and helped carry them to a, 76-65 victory over Glenville State College, Saturday at the Charleston Civic Center in the semi-final match-up of the Mountain East Conference tournament.
Not to be over-shadowed was senior point-guard Denzel Douglas who made a night for himself as well tallying 14 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, and four steals helping lead the Golden Eagles to an 11-point victory. Humphrey finished with a team high 15 points running his career total to 1,011 points. Aleksander Kesic finished a perfect five-for-five from the field adding 12 points, while Fred Simpson chipped in 14 points and six rebounds, and sophomore Tino diTrapano added 11 points, four assists, and four rebounds.
Charleston, who led by as many as 18 late in the second half chipped away and made useful work of a 12-0 run in the second half after leading 34-30 at the half. The use of 19 points off turnovers and 8 fast break points proved to be the difference for the Golden Eagles.
Glenville was led by Reggie Williams with 16 points and eight rebounds and Lamont Cole with 14 points. MEC top scorer Lamar Mallory was held to just 10 points on the night as the defense held the Pioneers just 3 of 19 from three and 38 percent from the field.
With the victory, Charleston picks up its 20
th victory of the season and moves on to play West Liberty University in the inaugural Mountain East Conference championship tomorrow with tip-off slated for 3:15P.M.
