Cole Nets 32 Points in 91-80 Win Over Concord

Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Elliott Cole's 32 points led Charleston to a 91-80 win over Concord on Monday evening at the CCHS Athletic Complex, improving their MEC record to 2-0 and keep their unblemished season intact.

Cole scored 32 points on 12-for-20 shooting and knocked down six triples on the night.  LJ Johnson chipped in 18 points and five rebounds off the Golden Eagle bench.  UC shot 56% from the floor and the same from behind the arc, going 9-for-16 as a team.

UC shrugged off a slow start, falling behind early to the Mountain Lions by eight before coming alive after a Dwaine Osborne timeout.  Trailing 12-8, Charleston used a nine to two run to take their first lead since jumping ahead 2-0 to start the game.  It was back and forth for much of the half with Concord shooting it well from behind the arc and UC getting buckets around the rim, led by LJ Johnson's 13 points off the Golden Eagle bench.  Charleston still found themselves down two, 41-39, as the first half clock expired after Concord knocked down their ninth three of the first 20 minutes.

The first seven minutes of the second half Concord and Charleston traded punches before the Golden Eagles ran off six straight points that forced the Mountain Lions to take a TO, falling behind 58-54 with a little over 12 minutes to play.

Charleston continued to stretch its lead, using a 7-0 run after Concord pulled within one, 63-62,  highlighted by a Coleman two-hand flush that put UC up eight at the final media timeout.  Concord had one final run in them but a pair of Elliott Cole put Charleston on top for good with one minute left, 82-73.  The Golden Eagles drained their free throws down the stretch, taking home their fourth victory to open the 2016-17 season and remain unbeaten.
