Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Women's Lacrosse team dropped their inaugural home game to Alderson Broaddus with a 10-5 decision. The Golden Eagles hosted the Battlers in their first ever home opener Friday afternoon.
    Â
"It was a special day for our program," said Charleston head coach Tiffany Smith. "Although the outcome is not what we would had hoped for, I think this is a game that our kids will forever remember. We had moments of greatness, and did some things well. We also made a lot of mistakes, but it's early in the season. We are a young team, and I know that we'll learn from those mistakes and continue to get better."
   Â
Alderson Broaddus (1-0-0), led the charge over the first year Golden Eagles scoring 6 goals in the first half. AB's Mykirah Jones and Jasmine Barham tallied the points for the Battlers, scoring three goals apiece. Charleston's
Kimberly D'Angelo (Lindenhurst, NY) tallied two goals for the Golden Eagles.
    Â
The Battlers led the Golden Eagles at the half with a score of 6-1. However, the Golden Eagles rallied early in the second half with back to back goals from junior captain
Nicole Purcell (Cortland, NY), and standout D'Angelo. The Golden Eagles were outshot by the Battlers 25-13. A stellar performance by freshman goalie
Catherine Clawson (Carrboro, NC) with 15 saves kept the Golden Eagles in the game. In the end, the Battlers proved to be too much for the Golden Eagles, firing four more goals late in the second half.
    Â
The Golden Eagles (0-2-0), will host fellow first year program Davis and Elkins College Friday, March 4th at 6:00pm at University of Charleston Stadium.
