Charleston Men's Track & Field Takes Home MEC Hardware

Marcum-MEC Track Athlete of the Year

Zack Marcum won the 400 meter race in a MEC record time/NCAA qualifying mark of 47.88 and finished 2nd in the 200 with a time of 22.09. He also was the anchor leg on the winning 4x400 meter relay team. Marcum won Mountain East Conference Track Athlete of the Year for his accomplishments.

Liam Mumford won the 1500 & 800 meter races for the 3rd consecutive year.  Mumford captured the 1500 first with a clocking of 4:02.22 and came back an hour later to take the 800 crown with a MEC meet record time of 1:54.86. He has now won 7 conference titles in 3 years. He was also on the winning 4x400 meter relay team.
Aaron Elliott won men's hammer with a throw of 48.21 meters to earn his 1st conference championship. James Volpe finished 4th with a huge PR of 44.88 meters. Volpe was just outside of MEC honors by 1 cm.

David Morales Perez won men's triple jump in dramatic fashion on his last jump in the competition. Perez jumped a season best 14.31 meters to claim his first championship.  He also placed 5th in men's long jump with a leap of 6.92 meters.  Christov Cornish claimed 3rd place overall in triple jump with a jump of 13.78 meters to claim All-MEC honors.

Bryson Dennison placed 2nd in men's pole vault with a jump of 4.45 meters to earn All-MEC honors.

UC had a strong showing in the men's 10k event as they placed 4-5-6-7 to earn 14 points.  Kevin Charette led the way running a massive personal best time of 32:16.20. Jake Casto followed in 5th place in 32:38.90, Josh McClung 6th in 32.44.80 and Max Allen 7th in 33:05.30.  All 4 runners in 10k had personal best times.

Chris Roy placed 4th in men's decathlon by scoring a school record 5067 points.

The 5k proved to be the deciding factor in the Golden Eagles finishing 2nd place overall as UC was all tied up with Concord at 123 points going into the final two events-5k & 4x4.  David Cecchi led the way for UC as he finished 2nd with a season best time of 15:28.33. Josh McClung and Kevin Charette finished closely behind to capture 3rd and 4th place with times of 15:33.72 and 15:39.57 respectively. Cecchi and McClung earned All-MEC honrs. Jake Casto finished 7th in 15:47.96 to provide scoring as well and give UC 21 points in the 5k.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Darius Booker, Troy Fisher, Liam Mumford and Zack Marcum won with a MEC record time of 3:18.99 and beat rival Concord.
Chris Burnham ran a season best time of 56.33 to claim 4th place while Jared Kacor also ran a personal best time of 58.17 to finish 6th overall.

Desmond Nartey had a strong showing the 200 meter race finishing 6th.

UC men finished 2nd overall and scored 154 points.  This is the best finish in program history and most points scored at the conference meet.
