Charleston Soccer Earns Top Seed in NCAA Atlantic Region

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee announced today the field of 38 teams for the 2018 Division II Men's Soccer Championship with University of Charleston earning the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Region.

Charleston (17-0-2) will play host to the No. 4 seed Millersville University on Saturday, November 10 in the Second Round of the NCAA DII Men's Soccer Championship.  MU earned an automatic bid after winning the PSAC title Sunday afternoon in penalty kicks.  Jaxson Burns was tabbed the MVP in the PSAC Men's Soccer Championship and will pace the Marauders while Chase Flickinger finished tied for eighth in points in the PSAC with 20. 

Kickoff with the Marauders is set for 1:00 p.m. at Schoenbaum Stadium in Coonskin Park.  UC and Millersville last faced each other during the 2012 regular season with Charleston taking a 2-1 win over the Marauders.  

Should Charleston advance past Saturday they will travel to the remaining highest seed in the East Region to take on the winner of the West Chester/Notre Dame in the Third Round of the NCAA Championship.

Two to six teams were selected from each of the eight regions. Teams from the same region will be paired for first- and/or second-round competition, which will be conducted November 8-11 on campus sites. Third-round/quarterfinals will be held on campus sites and completed by November 18. The semifinals and final will be played Nov. 29 and Dec. 1 at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a part of the 2018 Division II National Championship Fall Festival. The Festival is hosted by Slippery Rock University and SportsPITTSBURGH. In the 2017 championship, University of Charleston (West Virginia) beat Lynn University 0-0 (3-1 on penalty kicks) to claim their first national championship in school history.
