UC Goes 1-0 in MEC Play

Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va.—The Golden Eagles racked up their first conference win this season on Friday evening, defeating the visiting Notre Dame College Falcons 21-4 to go 1-0 in MEC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Eagles meant business on Friday night, scoring 21 goals to Notre Dame's 4 to win their first MEC match of the year. UC started the scoring early in the game, with six goals in the first four minutes of play by Abby McGowan, Samantha Youngman, Esther Yi, Emma Renda, Aryanna Jones, and Peyton Harris to put UC up 6-0 with 26:36 left to play in the first half. The Golden Eagles continued to pressure the Falcons in the first 30 minutes, forcing five turnovers and scoring 15 goals heading into the half.
 
UC's momentum did not stop heading into the second half, with a goal by Aryanna Jones in the first minute of play.  Abby McGowan answered again quickly for the Golden Eagles scoring the 17th goal of the game, and the rest of Charleston followed suit ending the game with 21 goals and allowing just four in. Kyra Tye had five saves on the day for UC to help lead to the 21-4 victory.

CHARLESTON INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Samantha Youngman led the Golden Eagles with seven goals.
Aryanna Jones led Charleston with four total assists.
Emma Renda led UC in draw controls with 6.
Kyra Tye had five saves for the Golden Eagles.

NOTRE DAME INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Taylor Henderson had two goals for Notre Dame.

The Golden Eagles will face Wheeling Jesuit University on April 15th at 12:00 p.m. at Schoenbaum Stadium in Charleston.
