Whittaker Shines as Golden Eagles Finish 3rd in MEC Championships

BUCKHANNON, W.Va.– Charleston women's track & field had a very successful finish to the three-day MEC Track & Field Championships at Cebe Ross Field on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College, earning their place on the medal stand with a third-place finish.
 
The Golden Eagles were paced by graduate transfer Kelly Whittaker who earned the MVP/Highpoint Award for scoring 36 total points in four events.  Whittaker had a busy afternoon, first winning the 1500m followed by an 800m title where she also set a new MEC Championship meet record. A few events later she took home runner-up in the 5000m and ended her day running the anchor for the 4x400m team that also claimed the second spot.  
 
Charleston freshman Jamaicia James also turned in a solid performance in her first MEC Championship, claiming the 400m title, runner-up in the 200m, and was a leg in the second-place 4x400m squad.  Diana Castillero earned a spot on the medal stand with a second-place finish in the 100m Hurdles to claim All-MEC honors.
 
Toriana Bates, Maddie McClintic and Tricht Jocelyn also provided the Golden Eagles some valuable points throughout the afternoon, chipping in on the 400m Hurdles and the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams.

Charleston's Maitri Pansania finished her Golden Eagle career being named the MEC Women's Field Athlete of the Year after her dominating performance of the Triple Jump this  season and the also the past three seasons.
