Charleston Starts Season on Friday at Shepherd

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Men's Basketball team will begin their season on the road as part of the PSAC/MEC Conference Challenge hosted by Shepherd University. The Golden Eagles, who finished 20-9 (15-7 MEC) during the 2018-19 campaign, is set to face Shepherd on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and California University of Pennsylvania on Saturday with tip off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Season Outlook: This season, Charleston was chosen by the MEC to finish 2nd in the 2019-20 preseason poll. The Golden Eagles returns three players that earned All-MEC honors last season in Drew Rackley (19.9 ppg), Lamont McManus (13.4 ppg) and Devon Robinson (11.3 ppg, 9.2 rbg). 
 
In addition, UC returns Junior Guard Seth O'Neal and Redshirt Sophomore Forward Riley Heatherington. O'Neal averaged 8.9 ppg, 4.2 apg, and 3.0 rbg during the 2018-19 season for the Golden Eagles, while Heatherington, who sat out last season with a leg injury, averaged 4.5 ppg, 3.1 rbg, and 1.3 apg during the 2017-18 campaign.
 
The Golden Eagles roster consists of six newcomers and five sophomores. O'Neal and McManus round out the Junior class while Rackley and Robinson are the lone seniors on this years' team. For Charleston's full 2019-20 roster, click here
