CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- University of Charleston's Jack Mastandrea qualified for 2019 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships as announced by the National Collegiate Athletic Association on Tuesday evening.
Mastandrea, a junior, becomes the first Golden Eagle in men's track history to qualify for an NCAA Track Championship, doing so in the 5000m run. He had a qualifying time of 14:17.20 which also is a UC track record and has posted the Atlantic Region's fastest indoor times in the mile, 3000m, and 5000m this season.
Mastandrea and coach Nick Bias will head to Pittsburg, Kansas, host site of the NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships. The championships are being held March 8-9 at the Robert W. Plaster Center. Pittsburg State University and the Crawford County Convention & Visitors Bureau will serve as co-hosts of the championships.
A total of 540 participants, 270 men and 270 women, will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event. The complete list of qualifiers is available at
