NEW ORLEANS – Scholar Teams of the Year and All-Academic Team honors for the 2018-19 NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field seasons were announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday. The Golden Eagles women's squad earned the honor for the 8th straight year, while senior Abby Watson earned the honor for the first time.
In total, 209 programs were honored by the USTFCCCA for their academic achievements.
Breaking it down even further, 130 of those teams were women's compared to 79 men's programs who earned the award. The Golden Eagles earned a team GPA of 3.07 to lock down this years honors.
Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 448 women earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2018-19 track & field seasons. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic award as an idividual, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either the indoor or outdoor season. Abby Watson took home the honor for the 2018-2019 season.
