Lacrosse Hosts Ashland at the Welch Athletic Complex on Saturday

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The University of Charleston Lacrosse program (1-1, 0-0 MEC) will be back home at the Welch Athletic Complex on Saturday to take on the Eagles from Ashland University with draw scheduled for 12:00 p.m. The Golden Eagles come into Saturday after Wednesday's contest against Thomas More was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
 
Last Time Out (February 21st):
Against UVA Wise, Charleston started the game by getting on the board in the first 40 seconds of the game as Emma Renda found the back of the net to put the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0. Over the next 18 minutes of play, the Cavaliers scored seven unanswered goals from six different players to regain the lead at 7-1.
 
The Golden Eagles cut into the lead with two goals in a three-minute span from Renda for her second and third of the contest, leaving UVA Wise ahead 7-3. Two late first-half penalties from the Golden Eagles forced the home team to play down as the Cavaliers scored two goals to carry a 9-3 lead into the break.
 
The second half began with Elishia Davis notching a pair of goals (both unassisted) for the Golden Eagles to bring the score to 9-5. At the 22:31 mark of the second half, it would be all Cavaliers for the remainder of the contest as the visitors notched seven consecutive goals to finish out the contest and capture a 16-5 victory on the road.
 
For the game, the Cavaliers outshot the Golden Eagles 44-15 including a 32-10 advantage in shots on net. Tye made 16 saves in net for the Golden Eagles as the tandem of Girardo and Edwards made a combined 5 saves for UVA Wise.

Scouting the Opponent:
Ashland (0-1, 0-0 GLIAC) comes into Saturday having lost their last matchup on February 23rd against the Dragons from Tiffin University by a score of 19-10. In the matchup, Tiffin scored four early goals to put Ashland in an early deficit. After goals from Sofia Michael and Renee Ruppert to close out the opening half, the Eagles found themselves down 9-5 at the break. Michael added three second-half goals to bring her tally to six in the game. Ruppert finished with three goals, and sophomore Mia Rader also tallied one goal. Junior Melan White made 13 saves in her debut for AU, while the Dragons led in shots, 34-25, and shots on goal, 32-18.
