Day Two: MEC Track & Field Championships

GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- Despite driving rain through portions of the afternoon, day two of the Mountain East Conference Track & Field Championships was completed in its entirety.

Through 11 events, Wheeling leads on the women's side with 110 points. West Liberty sits in second (90), West Virginia Wesleyan is third (77.5) and Charleston is in fourth (61).

Through the same number of events on the men's side, Charleston is on top of the team standings with 98 points. Glenville State is in second with 75 points, followed by Frostburg State (54), West Liberty (51.5) and Wheeling (49). 

Charleston's Miriam Dreher won the triple jump with a mark of 11.09 meters, finishing ahead of Frostburg State's Alyssa Mullery who also jumped 11.09, but Dreher had the longer second jump of 10.94 meters as the tiebreaker. 

In adverse conditions, Charleston's Nathan Stout had an NCAA provisional throw of 17.46 meters to win the shot put. The Golden Eagles also got a win in the triple jump as Kevin Olivas won with a mark of 14.15 meters. Frostburg State's Michael Belcher won the discus with a throw of 45.97 meters. 
 
Stout also placed 2nd in discus while teammate Kellen Tropek placed third to earn 14 points for their team. Matthew Forrester placed third in the 3k steeplechase with a time of 9:22 while Dennis McCheskey finished 5th with a personal record of 9:33.

In the Decathlon, Andrew Cree placed 6th with a personal record of 4,120 points. Cree was unseeded coming into the meet.
 
On the Women's side, Freshman Louise Cranston placed 2nd in the Heptathlon while breaking her own her school record with 4,130 points. She also set the HEP meet record in the 800m with a time of 2:29.
 
Freshman Haley Hurd placed 5th in the Shot Put with a personal record of 10.59m. In the 3k Steeplechase, Senior Lena Kaster ran to a 3rd place finish with a time of 12:15 while Sophomore Cami Wagner raced to a strong 5th place finish with a time of 12:50.
