YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio. - The University of Charleston men's and women's track and field teams opened their 2022-2023 indoor track and field season at the Youngstown State Icebreaker presented by Southwoods Health at the Watson and Tressel Training Site.
Men's Highlights
Charleston's
Timber Huysmans led the charge of the men's short sprint group.
Huysmans clocked a 21.72 in the 200-meter dash and a 6.97 in the 60-meter dash.
Colin Hunkele also had an impressive season debut in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.32, finishing fourth overall out of 60+ participants.
Placing eleventh,
Roberto Agrizzi started the season with a PR in the 60-meter hurdle, clocking a time of 8.44.
Kellen Tropeck had an impressive start in the throws. In shotput,
Tropeck threw 15.52, finishing sixth overall. In weight throw,
Tropeck put out a mark of 16.34 finishing fourth, respectfully.
Women's Highlights
In her collegiate debut,
Aaliyah Sheffield ran an 8.22 in the 60-meter dash, placing 29
th out of 60+ participants.
Louanne Pouzancre placed first overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.66.
Pouzancre set a new school record, while also making an NCAA provisional standard.
Also, finishing in the top 30 sprinters for the 400-meter dash were UC's Erica Davis (62.06) and Camilia Hoya (62.13).
Placing fifth out of over 100 sprinters at 25.01 was
Louanne Pouzancre in the 200-meter dash.
Aaliyah Sheffield (27.41) and Camilia Hoya (27.44) also had strong 200-meter dash finishes.
As for the 1-mile race,
Nadia Calore finished 23
rd with a time of 6:30.26.
"I am extremely proud of this team," Assistant Coach EJ Daffin said. "We had a strong preseason and our athletes pushed each other every day. You can see glimpses through the 12-week process that something special is going to happen. There is still some work to do, but overall, we are in a good spot for the start of the season!"
