Charleston, W. Va - Women's volleyball will be in good hands for the 2022 campaign as Golden Eagles' head coach, Tyler Kanelos, will begin his second season in the maroon and gold. After finishing 22-11 in his first season, he believes his incoming recruiting class will play a crucial role in the journey to the MEC Championship.
Abby Avila
Freshman | 5'9" | Cleveland, OH

Avila, an incoming freshman from Independence High School, will look to prove her worth at the setter position after previously leading Independence to the OHSAA State Championship for four straight years. She was named Conference MVP and District Player of the Year during the 2021 season. The list of accolades continues for Avila as she was named Ohio All State in both 2020 and 2021.
"Abby will be a great addition to our UC volleyball family," said Coach Kanelos of the Ohio native. "She comes from an outstanding high school Program and has played for two of the best clubs in the Cleveland area."
Erin Carmody
Graduate Student | 5'7" | Pittsburgh, PA

After completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh – Johnstown, Erin Carmody will continue her stellar collegiate career with the Golden Eagles. The All-PSAC libero has collected 1,757 career digs and enters the 2022 season as the active career leader in Division II with 5.37 digs per set. Carmody also owns the UPJ school record for single match digs with 46 in four sets against California (PA).
Coach Kanelos is very excited to have the graduate transfer join the squad.
"Erin has been one of the best liberos in the country at the DII level for the past four years. More importantly, her experience and leadership qualities will be an incredible asset to our program both on and off the court.
Bethany Jones
Redshirt Sophomore | 5'10" | Forney, TX

The pin hitter from Forney, TX will be joining the Golden Eagles after spending two years as a starter for the NJCAA Division I Cisco College. In her time at Cisco, she led the squad in points and blocks per set and earned All-Region V honors this past season. Jones holds the single season and career record at Cisco for total blocks and solo blocks. She also stands at 3
rd on the list for all-time leader in kills.
"She's an extremely versatile player, having played all three front row attacking positions. This versatility along with her blocking skills will be a huge boost to our team."
Kanelos also expressed how excited he was to see how Jones will contribute to the squad's chemistry on and off the court.
"Bethany's bright personality will also add a great amount to our family culture and team dynamic."
Reagan McLean
Redshirt Freshman | 6'1" | Georgetown, KY

After redshirting during her freshman year with The Herd of Marshall University, McLean will be joining the Golden Eagles in the fall. In high school, McLean was named AVCA All Region V and was named to the 2019 and 2020 JVA and AVCA Phenom Lists. She contributed to an 11
th place finish with her club team Lexington United at the 2019 AAU National Championships.
Coach Kanelos, a former assistant at Marshall, has crossed paths with her before and is very excited to have her join the squad.
"I'm very happy Reagan McLean will be joining us here in Charleston this fall. She adds a great deal of experience for us and still has a lot of great volleyball ahead of her. In getting to know Reagan during my time at Marshall, I know she will be a welcome addition to our family."
Pia Selke
Redshirt Sophomore | 6'3" | Schwerin, Germany

The German transfer from the College of Southern Idaho will be coming in for her redshirt sophomore year as a Golden Eagle. In her time in Idaho, she was a two-year starter that finished 3
rd in that nation with a .374 hitting percentage earning her All Region XVIII honors this past season. Selke also competed in the 2. Bundesliga with Schweriner Sport Club where she earned multiple top ten finishes and player of the match awards.
"Pia Selke is our first international recruit during my time here at UC, and we are very excited to add her to our program. She has proven herself as one of the best middle hitters in the nation at the junior college level and played at a very high level in her home country of Germany. We look forward to what Pia will bring to our UC and volleyball family on and off the court."
