Raleigh, NC - The Golden Eagles traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina this past weekend to compete amongst Division 1 and 2 schools in the Raleigh Relays. Coach Bias and his team continue their outstanding season as six student-athletes create new school records and place themselves at the top of the MEC standings. Highlights are below.
New School Records:
Warren Thiel-800m: Thiel not only breaks his previous school records but also makes a name for himself in the NCAA. Thiel ran a 1:51.40, breaking the school record he had set just last week, and ran an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time. The junior is #12 in NCAA Division 2 and #1 in the MEC. Thiel finished 37th out of more than 150 runners in Raleigh and continues to be a vital part of his team.
Matthys Bourse-3,000m Steeple Chase: Bourse, the Men's MEC Freshman of the Year, set the new school record for the 3,000m Steeple Chase, running a 9:07.15. Bourse earned himself an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time and is currently #8 in NCAA Division 2, and #2 time in the MEC.
Julie LaFare-10,000m: LaFare, the Women's MEC Freshman of the Year, set the new school record in the 10,000m, running a 35:22.54. Much like her teammates, LaFare earned an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time. The freshman is currently #5 in NCAA Division 2 and holds the #1 spot in MEC. LaFare finished 16th out of more than 100 runners.
Louanne Pouzancre-400m: Pouzancre broke her previous school record of 400m with a new time of 55.96 over the weekend. The 400m MEC champion also earned an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time and currently is #16 in NCAA Division 2, and to no surprise, #1 in the MEC.
The French native finished 26th out of more than 100 runners over the weekend.
Lily Dowdell-800m: Dowdell, much like her teammates, continues to break their own school records as the season continues. Dowdell ran the 800m with a time of 2:15.21 and holds the #1 spot in the MEC. Along with setting the school record, the sophomore ran a personal best in the 1500m race with a time of 4:35.81 and is #2 in the MEC.
Flora Tissier-1500m: Tissier set the new school record for the 1500m race over the weekend with a time of 4:31.20. The sophomore earned herself an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time, and is #7 in NCAA Division 2. Tissier holds the #1 spot in the MEC.

Men
Thomas Termote-5,000m
Termote finished 67th out of 232 runners in the 5,000m with a time of 14:18.43. Much like his teammates, Termote earned an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time. The MEC Most Valuable Runner is currently #2 in NCAA Division 2 for this race. Termote ran the 2nd fastest time in school history and holds the #2 time in the MEC. This race was the fastest outdoor 5,000m time of his career.
Zane Chalker-10,000m
Chalker earned the #1 spot in the 10,000m run for the MEC with a time of 30.35.94. His time is also the 3rd fastest 10,000m time in school history.
Kellen Tropeck-Shot Put & Discus
Tropeck, the MEC Men's Field Player of the Year earned the #1 mark in the Shot Put and Discus this past weekend. The senior threw Shot Put at a distance of 16.38m and placed 15th out of 50 competing. For Discus, Tropeck threw 47.05m and placed 19th out of 45 competing.
Timber Husmans-200m
Husmans ran a time of 22.13 in the 200m and holds the #3 time in the MEC.
Dennis McCheskey-3,000m Steeple Chase
McChesky ran his fastest personal time this past weekend for a time of 9:21.32. His time is the 2nd fastest personal time, and the #3 time in school history. This time earned him the #3 spot in the MEC.
Colin Hunkle-400m
Hunkle earns the #1 spot in the MEC after this weekend, running a 49.15 in the 400m. The sophomore finished 42nd out of 100 competing.
Michael Garrett-400m
Garrett, the West Virginia native, is right behind Hunkle in the MEC, holding the #2 spot after running 49.16 over the weekend. The junior finished right after Hunkle, placing 43rd out of 100 runners.
Women
Miram Dreher-Long Jump
Dreher jumped an outdoor season best with a distance of 5.45 meters this past weekend. Her distance earns her the #2 spot in the MEC.
MEC Athlete of the Week Nominations
Men
After his outstanding weekend, Warren Thiel earns a MEC Athlete of the Week Nomination for his 800m run. Earring the new school record, an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time, a #12 spot in NCAA Division, and #1 in the MEC make him a top contender for the award.
Women
Julie LaFare earns the women's MEC Athlete of the Week Nomination after her domination in Raleigh. Much like Thiel, she recorded a new school record in the 10,000m race. LaFare also earned an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time, is #5 in NCAA Division 2, and is in the top spot, #1, in the MEC. LaFare earned a top-20 finish, placing 16th out of more than 100 runners.
What's Next: The Golden Eagles will travel to High Point University in High Point, NC to compete in the Vert Classe Meeting this weekend from Friday, March 31st to Saturday, April 1st.
