Charleston Shines in Stacked Field at Live in the Lou Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Charleston Cross Country teams posted impressive results at the Live in the Lou Classic, competing in a highly competitive field. The men's team finished 13th out of 28 teams in the Gold race, which featured top Division I programs and five nationally ranked Division II teams, including Charleston. The women's team secured 12th place in the Blue race.
 
Highlights:
For the men's team, Sam Idiens led the Golden Eagles, finishing 28th overall with a personal best time of 24:26 in the 8K. Zane "Iggy" Chalker followed in 51st place with a time of 24:49, and Corey Schobelock set his personal best with a time of 24:54, finishing 63rd. Notably, Charleston outpaced several Division I schools, including Marshall, Bellarmine, and East Tennessee State.
 
On the women's side, Madison Woolwine paced the Golden Eagles with a 17th-place finish, clocking a personal best of 18:44 in the 5K. Mercy Jepleting placed 40th with a time of 19:13, while Lia Markert finished 60th at 19:38. Multiple runners achieved personal records, highlighting Charleston's strong showing in a field of over 300 competitors.

Both teams will use this performance as key preparation for regionals and nationals later this season, but up next is the Concord Alumni XC Invitational on Friday, October 18 in Athens, W.Va. From there, they will compete in the MEC XC Championships in Wheeling WV. on Saturday, October 26.
