ALLENDALE, Mich. / HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Dec. 6, 2024 – The University of Charleston Track & Field teams launched their 2024 indoor campaign on Friday, competing at the Grand Valley State University Opener in Allendale, Michigan, and the Marshall Opener in Huntington, West Virginia.

How it Happened:
At the GVSU Opener, Charleston's athletes delivered impressive early-season performances against strong regional competition.
Timber Huysmans led the charge, claiming first place in the Men's 200m with a Division II provisional qualifying time of 21.26.
Beth Sykes also turned in a standout effort, securing third in the Women's 5000m with a provisional time of 16:59.98.
Madison Woolwine added to Charleston's success with a fifth-place finish in the Women's 5000m, clocking 17:51.52, while
Sam Idiens joined the provisional qualifiers with an impressive time of 14:18.22 in the Men's 5000m.

In Huntington at the Marshall Opener, Charleston athletes delivered standout performances across multiple events. The men's team dominated the weight throw, with
Luke Messinger,
Jullian Matthews, and
Franklin Winter sweeping the top three spots with marks of 16.78m, 16.72m, and 16.30m, respectively. Winter continued his impressive day by securing first place in the shot put with a throw of 16.82m.
On the women's side,
Abby McKinney led the way in the weight throw, earning third place with a mark of 18.42m. Additional top finishes for the Golden Eagles included
Zachary Parsons' victory in the Men's 60m dash with a time of 6.95, and
Alexandra Pekic's strong runner-up finish in the Women's 300m, clocking in at 41.02.
