Huntington WV - The University of Charleston men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up a busy two-day weekend at the Marshall Invitational on February 6–7, highlighted by multiple school records, event wins, and personal-best performances across both the track and field.
Day One
Men's Track
Charleston made an immediate impact in the men's 1,000 meters, placing three Golden Eagles under the previous school record. Hugo Hewitt and Caleb Gilbert both crossed the line in 2:30, while
Matthew O'Shea led the trio and set a new school record with a time of 2:29.46.
Women's Field
Joy Edward captured the women's shot put title with a winning throw of 14.01 meters (45 feet, 11.75 inches).
Adrienne Truman added another highlight on the women's side by setting a new school record in the high jump, clearing 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches).
Men's Field
Luke Messinger placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 15.04 meters (49 feet, 4.25 inches), while teammate Julian Matthews followed in eighth at 14.64 meters (48 feet).
In the men's long jump,
Luke Davis finished seventh with a leap of 6.65 meters (21 feet, 10 inches).
Aiden Miller also turned in a strong performance, setting a new personal record at 6.26 meters (20 feet, 6.5 inches).
Day Two
Women's Field
Laura Delgado de Torres claimed the triple jump title, winning the event with a jump of 11.02 meters (36 feet, 2 inches).
Joy Edward returned to the ring in the elite women's weight throw, earning a second-place finish with a mark of 17.48 meters (57 feet, 4.25 inches).
Men's Field
In the men's triple jump,
Devin English and
Adonis Soto finished back-to-back in 10th and 11th place, each recording a mark of 11.77 meters (38 feet, 7.5 inches).
Luke Messinger added another milestone in the elite men's weight throw, tying the school record with a personal-best throw of 18.35 meters (60 feet, 2.5 inches).
Women's Track
Sarah Campana led the way in the women's mile, setting a new personal record with a time of 5:15.88.
Charleston placed two athletes in the women's 60-meter hurdles finals.
Minke Engelbrecht finished fourth with a season-best time of 8.94 seconds, while
Mallory Dunn-Martin earned sixth place and set a new personal record at 9.08 seconds.
Abbey Bolton set a new personal record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.4
Colette Patti continued her record-breaking season in the women's 60-meter dash finals, placing second and setting a new school record with a time of 7.59 seconds.
Men's Track
Mathew Meli captured the men's mile title, winning the event in 4:08.87.
Brady Prior posted a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 49.21, while Miller McElrea followed in eighth at 49.73. Pryor also earned a runner-up finish in the 200 meters, setting a new personal record at 21.85 seconds.
Josh Messina delivered a strong performance in the men's 800 meters, placing third with a personal-best time of 1:55.05.
In the men's 60-meter hurdles finals,
Massimo Pantano finished second with a season-best time of 8.18 seconds.
Collin Brooks closed the meet on a high note for the Golden Eagles, winning the men's 3,000 meters and setting a new personal record with a time of 8:27.37.
