CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Despite committing 21 turnovers and leaving its coach disappointed, the University of Charleston edged Cincinnati-Clermont 83-76 in men's basketball Friday night in Highland Heights, Ky.
UC's Marco Richardson, a 6-foot-5 junior, led the team with 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Jonathan Liggins, a 6-0 senior, added 18 points and four assists.
"We were bad. We weren't ready to play,'' said UC coach Mark Downey. "We thought we would just walk in here and get it done. We missed about 10 layups, if not more. I was not happy with the effort, the focus or the preparation. We just had a 45-minute heart-to-heart. Hopefully, this will be a lesson for the guys.''
UC's John White and Ibrahim Marone did not play because of minor injuries but may be available today, said Downey.
The Golden Eagles (2-0) will face Northern Kentucky at 7:45 p.m. today in Highland Heights with live audio and video available here at www.ucgoldeneagles.com
