Men's Basketball Can't Hold Early Lead in 85-79 Loss

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Jon Liggins led Charleston with 20 points, five assists and five rebounds as the Golden Eagles pulled out to a nine-point halftime lead, but Pitt-Johnstown responded behind the hot-hand of Danny Branch to pull out an 85-79 WVIAC win.

UC shots 44 percent (30-of-68) from the field in the contest, but UPJ made the most of their second half possessions to end the game shooting 59 percent (33-of-56).

The Mountain Cats stayed perfect on the season (4-0, 3-0) by holding off a late University of Charleston comeback by hitting 90 percent of their free-throws (10-of-11), while Charleston struggled from the charity stripe on the night hitting just 6-of-20 attempts.

The highlight for Charleston on the evening was holding UPJ to zero offensive rebounds for the contest and out-rebounding Pitt-Johnstown 38-to-27 overall.

Ibrahim Marone contributed 11 points and five rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting, while Marco Richardson netted 13 points and five rebounds. 2009-10 Second Team All-WVIAC selection Branch paced the Mountain Cats with 23 points and eight assists on 10-of-16 shooting in the game.
