PHILIPPI, W.Va. - The University of Charleston men's basketball team had 10 players find the stat book but fell just short in an 80-70 loss at West Virginia Conference opponent Alderson-Broaddus, Saturday evening.
On a night where every shot seemed to be falling for the Battlers (3-2, 3-1) the Golden Eagles (6-2, 2-2) held close despite nine three-pointers by the home squad by pushing the ball inside the paint. UC managed to get to the free throw line 19 times countering the deep-threat of A-B in the first half.
Coming off a UC turnover Alderson-Broaddus took momentum into the locker room at halftime hitting a shot from nearly half-court to take a 41-39 advantage into the break.
The touch didn't recover for the Golden Eagles in the second half as they shot just 31 percent to the Battlers 62 percent. Both teams went on to hit 11-of-14 free throw in the second half allowing the home team to pull away mid-way through the second half.
UC made a late charge behind back-to-back three-pointers by
Paul "PJ" Reyes (Taylor, Mich.), yet fell short in the end as Alderson-Broaddus sealed the 10 point win down the stretch.
Reyes was the only Golden Eagle in double-figures with 25 points and five rebounds.
