Balanced Scoring Results In A 20 Point Win For Golden Eagles

Box Score Buckhannon, WV - Six players scored in double figures for the Golden Eagles Saturday as they went on to beat host West Virginia Wesleyan College by 20 points, 80-60.

Charleston was in its 3rd game of a 4 game road stretch hoping to build on its current 3 game win streak and improve their WVIAC record to 5-2.  The Golden Eagles used a balanced attack and tough defense to get the win against the overmatched Bobcats.

UC got off to somewhat of a slow start giving WVWC an early lead, but quickly got back on track to build a 13 point lead after a Hayden Annett (Portland, Australia) jumper that made it 23-10 halfway through the 1st 20 minutes.  Charleston eventually got the lead up to 15 points late in the 1st before the Bobcats used a 10 point run to close within 5 with 4 minutes left to go before halftime.  The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half and went to the locker with the Golden Eagles leading by 7, 39-32.

UC came out of the locker hot and outscored WVWC 15-7 over the first 6 minutes of the second half to push the score to 54-39 after a Xavier Humphrey (Wake Forest, N.C.) layup.  UC would maintain a good cushion the rest of the half on the play of Aleksander Kesic (Belgrade, Serbia)as the Bobcats never really threatened to make the game close.  The Golden Eagles would finish the game on a 17-7 run that would get them the 20 point victory, 80-60.  This was Charleston's 4th win in a row winning by double digits.

The Golden Eagles were led by Humphrey with 17 points and 8 rebounds, but also had 5 other players score in double figures.  WVWC got a strong game from forward, Kelsey Williams, who finished the contest with game high's 21 points and 14 rebounds.

UC hits the road again for the last game of a 4 game road stretch as they take on Bluefield State College Thursday, before returning to the Eddie King Gymnasium to take on rival West Virginia State University next Saturday, January 12.
