Golden Eagles Knock Down 15 From Deep, Defeat Frostburg State 98-66

Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles Men's Basketball team (5-2, 5-2 MEC) defeated the Bobcats of Frostburg State by a score of 98-66 on Wednesday evening at the Wehrle Innovation Center. The Golden Eagles were led offensively by Lamont McManus, who finished the game with 18 points and seven rebounds. Four other Golden Eagles finished with double figures for the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Action on the offensive side was scare to come by for both teams through the first three minutes of the game as both teams scored their first buckets just over three minutes into the ballgame. At the 16:00 mark in the first, head coach Dwaine Osborne did his platoon swap with the game tied at four. Headed into the first media timeout, Frostburg State (3-of-9) led the Golden Eagles (1-of-8) 6-4 despite subpar shooting out the gate for both squads.
 
Out of the timeout, Charleston converted shots on five of their next seven possessions and found themselves holding a five-point lead with 10:40 remaining in the half. As the half continued to move, Charleston found themselves leading 23-16 with 7:27 remaining in the frame behind strong play from all parties, as six Golden Eagles had scored up to that point.
 
As the half wound to a close, Charleston was able to increase their advantage to 16, leading 44-28 at the break. For the half, Charleston shot 44.4% from the floor (16-of-36) while the Bobcats converted on 12-of-25 (48.0%). Charleston held a strong advantage from beyond the arc, hitting seven compared to one for Frostburg State. The Golden Eagles also led in rebounding 19-16 while outscoring in bench play, 25-10.
 
Out of the break, Charleston opened the half on a 12-6 run which included seven from McManus to increase their lead to 56-34 with 16:36 remaining in the game. Just over seven minutes into the half, Charleston had converted on their sixth long ball of the half which increased their total to 13 for the game, their highest during any game this season. With three Golden Eagles already in double figures for the game, Charleston increased their lead to 30 with 8:52 remaining. The remainder of the half was all Charleston, as the Golden Eagles eventually closed out the game with a 98-66 win.
 
Charleston finished the game hitting 15 three-pointers and shooting 54.4% from the field. In addition, the Golden Eagles outrebounded the Bobcats 44-31 while assisting on 23 of their buckets.
