Four Tabbed All-Atlantic Region First Team by NCBWA

Charleston, W. Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) released the 2023 Atlantic Region Teams last Wednesday and named four Charleston (WV) players to the first team.
 
Cole Peschl, a sophomore out of Fairmont, WV was named as the sole relief pitcher on the first team. After spending most of the season as a high leverage relief pitcher, Peschl found his way into a starting role in pivotal games late in the year. He ranked best on the team in earned run average (2.35) and second best in strikeouts strikeouts (78) among pitchers with at least 50 innings of work. His 9-2 record was top 25 in the country and second best in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) for 2023.
 
His best performance came against West Virginia State University as he threw a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts in the final series of the regular season.
 
The MEC Player of the Year Tyler Dellerman also found his way onto the first team this season after being named to the second team in 2022. The graduate student catcher from Maineville, OH ended the year slashing .373/.494/.773 with 65 runs, 66 RBI, 15 doubles, and 19 home runs. He was top in the conference for RBI and top 20 in the country for slugging percentage. In the NCAA tournament Dellerman collected five hits in ten at bats including a home run and a four hit day against West Chester.
 
Kyle West was named Atlantic Region First Team at first base as well. The sophomore from Hedgesville, WV led the conference in every major offensive category. He hit .397, slugged .881 and had an on base percentage of .524 all while hitting a new conference record 22 home runs during the season. He also had 20 doubles, four triples, 72 runs, 60 RBI, and stole 29 bases in 32 attempts. The lefty finished first in the country for slugging percentage and was top ten for home runs.
 
The final player selected was outfielder Giano Zuccaro. The sophomore hit .377 with a team best 20 hit by pitches and reached base at a .508 clip. He slugged .629 which ranks fourth best on the team, and had 12 doubles, seven home runs, 51 runs, and 46 RBI on the season.
