The University of Charleston Men's Basketball team improved their record to 5-1 (1-1 MEC) on Tuesday evening at the Wehrle Innovation Center with an 85-83 defeat over the Pioneers of Glenville State. The Golden Eagles capped off the contest with a game-winning steal that led to a driving layup from Devon Robinson in the closing seconds. Robinson finished the game with 17 points, shooting a perfect 8-of-8 from the field while grabbing 11 rebounds to notch his third double-double of the season.

Charleston shot just under 57% from the field and went 8-for-20 from deep after a 2-of-12 start led by a 6-of-8 effort from Eddie Colbert III. The Golden Eagles were able to keep the Pioneers from dominating from behind the arc in the second half, allowing just three of ten attempts to find the bottom of the net after allowing eight in the first half.

Women's Basketball Outlook:

The Golden Eagles Women's Basketball team ousted Glenville State 78-72 last Tuesday evening to grab their first win against the Pioneers since the 2017 MEC Tournament. Charleston (4-1, 1-1 MEC) was able to slow down the fast-paced offense and pressuring defense by holding the visitors to their lowest score line of the season. Charleston was led by Anna Hayton and Erykah Russell who both pitched double-doubles in the victory.

Neither team led by more than three points, but the Golden Eagles capitalized on their chances offensively by shooting 67% from the field compared to 43% for the Pioneers. After carrying a two-point lead into half, the Golden Eagles began the second half on a 13-2 run to gain a 14-point advantage. The Pioneers would bring the score within 10, trailing 52-62 to begin the final quarter.

Glenville outscored the Golden Eagles 20-16 in the fourth, but it was not enough as Charleston shot no less than 50 percent on all fronts for the game and held steady with a balance attack as three Golden Eagles as Hayton, Russell, and Brooklyn Pannell all reached double digit scoring figures.
