Dickerson was inducted into the Golden Eagle Sports Hall of Fame in 1988 after a successful playing career from 1969-1973 at Morris Harvey College.
He was named All-WVIAC and All-WVIAC Tournament each of his four seasons as a Golden Eagle. Dickerson finished his career with over 1,800 points and 1,300 rebounds, earning All-American status in his final season with Morris Harvey. He went on to sign as a free agent in NBA, playing for the Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks. Following his NBA career, Dickerson made his way to the sideline as a coach, stopping first at his alma mater before going on to coach at NCAA Division I schools, University of Tennessee Chattanooga and North Carolina Central University.
In 2017 Dickerson had his No. 34 retired by the University of Charleston. He is just one of five individuals to have their number retired at the University.
