Gordon compiled one of the most impressive records ever at Morris Harvey College as a member of the Golden Eagle Men's Tennis team from 1970 to 1972, finishing his career at a near perfect 36-1 in WVIAC singles matches.

Gordon won the WVIAC singles championship and his Golden Eagles won the WVIAC team championship three consecutive seasons in 1970, '71, and '72.  For his accomplishments, Gordon was named WVIAC Player of the Year in 1970 and 1971.
